Biography

Maugan Ra is unique among the Phoenix Lords — where most embody the martial glory of the warrior, Maugan Ra embodies the cold inevitability of death itself. He founded the Dark Reapers to give form to that most terrible truth: that in war, there is no escape, no refuge, and no survival. The missile streaking toward you was aimed before you were born. The shot that ends you was loaded before your parents met. Maugan Ra's Dark Reapers are that predestination made manifest — the unavoidable end that waits at the edge of every battlefield.

His history is steeped in tragedy. His home Craftworld of Altansar was swallowed by the Eye of Terror in the aftermath of the Fall, and Maugan Ra himself was thought lost — until M41, when he was found wandering alone, having survived ten thousand years alone in the warp. Where others would have been destroyed or corrupted, the Harvester of Souls endured. He is perhaps the only Aeldari to have experienced the full horror of what Slaanesh wrought on the Aeldari race and emerged unchanged — a testament to the terrible strength of his conviction, and the cold comfort of accepting that all things end.

MELEE WEAPON
The Maugetar
The close-combat form of the Maugetar — an enormous scythe-blade of black wraithbone that Maugan Ra wields with horrifying efficiency. Its edge is honed to monomolecular sharpness, capable of cleaving through terminator armour as though it were parchment. The blade resonates with a low subsonic frequency that causes paralysing dread in those who hear it, weakening their defences a fraction of a second before the killing blow lands.
WEAPON SYSTEM
The Maugetar
The Maugetar is the most feared ranged weapon in the Aeldari arsenal — a fusion of shuriken cannon and executioner that Maugan Ra himself designed and constructed. It can fire streams of razor-edged discs that shred infantry, or unleash single concentrated executioner shots of terrifying power capable of destroying light vehicles. No other being in the galaxy can wield this weapon as its creator does, directing fire with a prescient accuracy that borders on prophecy.
ARMOUR
The Armour of the Reaper
Jet-black armour built to resemble a skeletal death-figure, the Armour of the Reaper is as much a psychological weapon as a physical one. Its silhouette is that of death incarnate — the great rack of missile tubes rising behind Maugan Ra's shoulders like a crown of thorns, the bone-pale death mask concealing whatever expression might betray a hint of mercy. Warriors who face it break before a shot is fired. Those who hold their nerve rarely survive what comes next.
CLOAK
The Cloak of Souls
A deep burgundy cloak woven from the psychocrystalline residue of ten thousand souls — the echoes of those slain by Maugan Ra across the millennia, bound into the fabric through processes long forgotten. It is said the cloak whispers to those who stand near it, and that in the darkness of the warp it roils with barely contained spiritual energy. In battle it provides considerable protection — the layered souls acting as a psychic buffer against witchfire and daemonic energies that would otherwise pierce even Phoenix Lord armour.
